Interview of Dan Avram
"Launching a new application and putting it in production should be perfectly managed in narrow collaboration with our clients."
August 26, 2002

Dan A. is one of the first members of Pentalog High Tech Romanian Team, since its creation at the end of 1999.

In the frame of the experiences' exchanges realized between the French and Romanian team, Dan had been working for five month in France.
He shares with us this experience.

Aleth D. :
Who did you collaborate with your French colleagues?
Dan A. : Since my arrival in Orleans, I had especially worked on projects already started by my French colleagues. I was integrated in several projects and I always found my place.
My project managers had first charged me of parameters' setting, test and development missions in our offices and in collaboration with my French colleagues, in order to get used to the French working environment. I really appreciated working in team with people who I had just known and having a different culture that mine.
Afterwards, I worked directly for our clients, in their offices, for installations or technical assistance. During these five months, I had the chance to work on interesting projects as those for Orleans' city Hall, Cerib, SIPCAM and AFNOR.

Aleth D. : Could you describe us one of the most interesting missions that you had realized?
Dan A. : One of the most interesting missions was that for Afnor. For tree weeks, I realized technical assistance on the Saint Denis site, around an application realized by our company, which manage the certification process (ITAC). During this mission, I was in charged with generating publishing models for documents used by this institution for certification. Those models were based on users' request for access to different quality standards.
My mission was extended towards the dynamic creation of providers and products lists, which has been certified by AFNOR.

Aleth D. : I noticed from your CV that you have a Tomcat server specialization. Did you practice this competence in France?
Dan A. : Indeed, during this five months I had the opportunity to exploit my competences in The Port (software for portals' creation and management) development. So, I shifted the web platforms of two of our clients on Tomcat servers.
This "migration" allows us to optimize response time during Web pages' display, but also to increase the performances of queries processing as well as the time nevessary to display results to users searches.

Aleth D. :
In Romania, you have worked until now only on project development, at the branch office. What brought you different interventions that you had realized for our clients, in their offices?
Dan A. : I appreciated my missions in direct contact with our clients, because it allowed me to better understand their needs. So, I had the opportunity to follow the development of applications developed by our French and Romanian teams. I better understood the professional logic of some of the applications managing information systems.
Due to these missions, I was able to comprehend the difficulties, which we have to deal with during the integration of a new application. The risk of missing the implementation and start up of an application should be perfectly managed. It is as much important to collaborate with the client in order to take care that the new application is correctly integrated well into the working customs of the users.
So, I tried to set up a certain number of marks and documentations, accessible and recognizable easily.

Aleth D. :
What were your extra-professional activities during your stay in France?
Dan A. : I arrived on the Orleans site of Pentalog Hich Tech in the same time with my colleague, Iulia. Both of us, we were invited to several parties and activities organized by our colleagues. We visited Centre Loire region, and its castles, Paris with its monuments Versaille, Louvre, Invalides). We went to cinema, theaters… We benefited from a large game of cultural activities.
.

Aleth D. :
Besides Val de Loire and Paris, did you visit other European regions?

Dan A. : Certainly, during a long week end, in may, we visited Spain, We visited for a week Granada and sites as Alhambra castles. Spanish civilisatrion, a s well as French one, are very closed to Romanian civilization, by our Latin origins.

Aleth D. :
Which are your strongest impression from France?

Dan A. : Quite as Iulia, I felt integrated in the French society. I was impressed by the cosmopolitism of your urban population. A very pleasant mixture of cultural, architectural diversities, which we don't' have in our country.
French-speaking foreigner could rather easily manage and tie up good social and professional relations; it is true that we didn't have any problem with the French language. French people share values close to ours: open-mindedness, tolerance, respect of differences.
