| In
the last two years, Pentalog High Tech has implemented
for 12 of its clients technologies issued from
the free software world.
From OS Linux Serveur, which is a reference, to
relational databases, by Java application servers
and PhP language, Pentalog High Tech has acquired
an important experience in the freeware.
Free access doesn't mean amateurism. The maturity
of this tools meets three of our clients' major
requests, in the SME business area, as well for
big accounts.
1.
Diminish costs and loosen projects
In
numerous cases, especially for SME, the entry
ticket, represented by performing web architecture,
blocks the projects' development.
The fact that clients will not pay the licenses'
costs, intrinsic to any application, having an
uncertain return on investment, turns out to be
determinant.
We shall quote Clementz' example (European leader
of physical inventory, 20 employees in Orleans
and Paris ), which was able to set up its ASP
software professional solution, in PhP / MySQL
on Linux / Apache.
Let us add Rassinoux SA (80 employees in Eure
and Loire) and Dolia (8 employees, Bordeaux) which
are offering to their clients leading CRM services
based on controlled costs, on Java applications
servers (Tomcat - JBoss).
None of those SME would have previously have undergone/passed
the gap of the decision to invest without free
software.
2.
Independence and balancing for the IT policy
For
many clients, specially the large companies, the
period "all IBM", or "All Microsoft"
was very difficult. By their maturity, free software
represent today an interesting alternative for
all IT managers, who will be able in this way
to reduce costs, without taking position too early
for one of the major actors of the market (IBM
Websphere, BEA WebLogic, Microsoft .NET).
That case concerns our clients AFNOR, Cerib, Sipcam,
Orléans City Hall.
3.
Preparing future projects in a cheaper way
Today,
the choice of an OS for a web server is naturally
directed toward Unix. (Linux, or other editors
present on the market). But, choosing an application
server is more difficult, due to the high cost
generated while the processing and security needs
are increasing.
Choosing free software enables companies to structure
their needs, to build prototypes, to start and
to convey later the platform towards a leader
editor on the market, knowing that compatibility
with marketed software is entirely ensured, of
course by Java technology.
By
its high reliability, minimal owning costs (but
real, because we always need competences), free
software architecture represents an effective
answer to all needs in computer system security
(less concerned by viral attacks).
IBM Websphere and BEA WebLogic represent effective
answers to clients' expectations while increasing
performance needs, they keep also the same heredity
with Tomcat and JBoss.
Nevertheless, Microsoft chooses to evolve in another
world.
Now, a well informed IT manager has to integrate
this option and to collaborate with a service
provider that will allow him to save money without
wasting time (well known approach in the free
software world). |
